2025 Macroeconomics I Columns start coming out next Tuesday
Next Tuesday we start publishing the best columns from the 2025 edition of the course Macroeconomics I at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam!
As always, the course focused on two concrete issues that are in the news and public debate this year, one short run and one long run. The short-run issue was elevated inflation, referring to a situation in which inflation has come down from high levels but remains above the 2% target of central banks. The long-run issue was Europe Falling Behind? This issue has received a lot of attention in the news since Mario Draghi released his report on European competitiveness in September 2024. While the course was running, the policies imposed by the Trump administration raised questions both about what will happen to inflation, and the relatively strong growth performance of the US economy.
All columns have some relationship to these issues, and they will often zoom in on a specific aspect or the situation of a particular country.
We’ll have 9 columns in total, and we’ll publish twice-weekly on Tuesday and Friday for the coming weeks.
We hope you enjoy this year’s columns!
